Free Antonietta Dizon!
Dizon is a former director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and one of the founding leaders of COURAGE. After retiring from public office in 2003, she became an active staff member of COURAGE and a consultant of various people’s organizations and non-government organizations. She led the organizing efforts of the Manila Water and Sewerage System workers to fight the company’s privatization. Because of her dedication to serving government employees and marginalized Filipinos, she was repeatedly red-tagged and harassed even when she was no longer active in organizing work with COURAGE and consultancy work with people’s organizations.
Dizon was illegally arrested in her San Pedro, Laguna residence on September 17, 2019 on the basis of trumped-up charges of murder, attempted murder and arson. Guns and explosives were planted as pieces of evidence, after a dubious search of her residence by virtue of search warrants that were later quashed by the issuing court of RTC Branch 27, Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Criminal cases against Dizon are currently being resolved by the RTC Branch 169 in San Pedro, Laguna in the context of the quashed search warrants. She was transferred from San Pedro to Calamba, Laguna jail and then to Butuan City Jail in Agusan Del Norte for the hearings on the false murder and arson cases filed against her.
