According to his son, the arresting officers stated that Puansing could post a bail for P20,000 but would still need to be detained due to an undisclosed case under laws on illegal possession of explosives and firearms. They also said that he has a standing arrest warrant, which had not been served since 2019. The police also remarked, “aktibo ka pala pala ah” (“ah, so you continue to be active”).
Puansing is among labor leaders in Negros who were targeted during simultaneous raids on offices of progressive groups on October 31, 1019 at around 4:00 in the afternoon in Bacolod City and on November 1, 2019 at around 4:00 in the morning in Escalante City. The raids were based on search warrants issued by Judge Villavert. According to a police affidavit submitted by PCpl Nash Arellano and released on December 27, 2019, long and short firearms belonging to Puansing were observed during surveillance of his house.
